You may not know the harsh reality of street dogs in Asia

In Thailand, it is said there are over one million stray dogs.

Most are left on the streets with no food, shelter, or care.

Your compassion can change this.

With your support, lives can be saved.

If you are interested in supporting us, please read to the end and we would appreciate your support.

A Rainy Day That Changed Everything

My name is Natsuko Okazaki, founder of Green Tails, a private rescue home for dogs in Bangkok.

I was the first Japanese person to establish a rescue facility for stray dogs in Thailand.

Behind the slogan “The Land of Smiles”, countless dogs wander in the scorching heat, searching for scraps of food.

Many die from starvation or exposure. Some suffer abuse or are even sold illegally for meat.

In 2011, during Thailand’s great floods, I found four tiny white puppies abandoned in a flooded field.

That was the day I met SOM.

The Puppy No One Would Adopt

Three of the puppies found families. But SOM did not.

She was painfully thin, and her blood glucose was over 600.

The diagnosis: Type 1 diabetes.

She lost her eyesight and would need insulin injections every 12 hours for the rest of her life.

On top of that, she required a special diet and continuous medical care.

Her needs were too much for most families.

So, no one came forward.

I Will Not Abandon SOM

I made the decision to adopt her myself.

There were times when her blood glucose wouldn’t stabilize, and I feared she wouldn’t make it.

Month after month, medical bills kept coming.

But thanks to continued care, SOM survived.

SOM Lived 14 Beautiful Years

Her blood glucose became stable.

She even underwent cataract surgery and regained vision in one eye.

Later, I founded Green Tails, where SOM gained a family of dogs, volunteers, and supporters.

Surrounded by love, she passed away peacefully.

The Gift SOM Gave Me

SOM could have died in the floods.

She could have been left to perish because no one adopted her.

But instead, she lived a happy life, fighting her illness with courage.

And in return, she gave me strength and joy every day.

She is the reason I created Green Tails.

Green Tails – A Home for Dogs Like SOM

Because of SOM, I never gave up, no matter the challenges.

Since then, I have cared for over 200 dogs.

It hasn’t been easy, physically or financially.

But like SOM, I chose to keep going.

And now, my mission is to rescue more dogs like her.

Our Mission: “Quality of Life for Dogs”

At Green Tails, our vision is simple: to give dogs not just survival, but love and dignity.

Unlike government shelters, we provide a real home:

  • Shared living with people
  • Proper meals
  • Walks, rehabilitation, and nursing care
  • Individual attention and affection

Why Not Just Leave It to Government Shelters?

Some may think, “Isn’t that the government’s job?”

But in Thailand, one government facility holds nearly 5,000 dogs.

There is no euthanasia policy—but there are also no resources to care for so many.

The result: most dogs spend their lives in poor conditions, with no care, waiting for death.

That is why we must act.

How Your Support Saves Lives

That's why Green Tails provides the care that national shelters can't provide.

The more people who support us, the more dogs we can give a happy life to.

For example,

If one person donates $1 a day, two dogs can be fed daily.

If five people donate $3 a day, five dogs can receive appropriate medical care, including annual vaccinations.

If seven people donate $10 a day, we can cover the maintenance costs of a facility that can house 15 dogs.

Please Join Us

SOM’s story shows what love and care can do.
But there are still so many waiting for help.

Will you be a part of their story?

 Foster Home Green Tails’ Activities

We would like to once again introduce the support activities carried out by Green Tails.

Cared for over 200 dogs in total

Our facility is home to around 15 dogs at any given time.
Some dogs will stay with us for the rest of their life, while others are eventually adopted into new families.
To date, we have helped over 200 dogs who once had nowhere to go.

Dogs with special needs—including illness, senior age, physical challenges, or behavioral issues—who struggle to find adoptive homes can spend the rest of their lives happily and safely here at Green Tails.

Foster Homes in 15 Countries

We coordinate the search for loving foster homes for the dogs we rescue.
For adult rescue dogs over the age of two—who are often difficult to adopt within Thailand—we have connected them with foster families in 15 countries around the world, including Europe, the United States, and Japan.

Countries where we have found foster families include:
the UK, Canada, the USA, Japan, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Finland, Austria , Spain, France, Switzerland, and more.

We are grateful to be able to help these dogs find their happy forever homes.

Support from International Animal Protection Organizations

In April 2023, we were honored to welcome representatives from Network for Animals, an international animal protection organization.
We were deeply encouraged that our small, privately run dog rescue home was recognized and supported in this way.

10,000 Followers Around the World

Our activities are shared through Green Tails’ Instagram, which now has over 10,000 followers worldwide as of 2025.
We believe this is a reflection of the long-term dedication and care we’ve continued to provide for so many dogs over the years.

Dogs We’ve Helped

Green Tails has rescued and supported over 200 dogs in total.
Here are a few of their stories.

Mikey (female, estimated 13 years old) – A Dog with Special Needs

Mikey was injured in an accident 11 years ago in a region called Sangkhlaburi.
As a result, she lost the ability to defecate on her own and needs to be manually assisted several times a day.
She also suffers from frequent cystitis and must stay on antibiotics.

Over the years, Mikey has undergone three emergency surgeries, including two severe gastric torsions and a serious pyometra, costing over 1,400USD each time.

Originally, Mikey was supposed to travel to the UK to receive protection from a British group that rescued her, but unfortunately, she was abandoned by them.
After coming to Green Tails, she has lived a peaceful and happy life under the care and love of kind-hearted people who believe in her future.

Woofie (male, 8 years old) – Rescued from the Street

Woofie had lived on the street in front of a convenience store for six years since he was a puppy.
When I found him in June 2023, he had a severe skin disease (mange), his skin was in tatters, and he looked much older than he was.
He also suffered from joint pain in his hind legs, could only walk slowly, and had difficulty climbing stairs, so I had to carry him into the garden every day.

After rescue, he was hospitalized for about two weeks and received medical treatment costing around 7,000 USD, V along with daily medicated baths.

He then came to live at the Green Tails foster home, where we continued his treatment and care.
After six months of steady recovery, his beautiful fur grew back—and to our surprise, we discovered he was a Golden Retriever mix!
Woofie has a gentle heart, intelligence, and a playful spirit that makes us smile every day.
We truly hope he will find a wonderful forever family.

Over 20 Years of Rescue Activities

I have been rescuing dogs since 2002—over 23 years now.
My dream has always been to create a place where as many dogs as possible can live happy, safe lives.
With that in mind, I became the first Japanese person to establish a dog rescue facility in Bangkok, founding Green Tails in 2013.

Loss of Income Due to COVID-19

When I first opened Green Tails, I mainly supported the dogs using my own income, with very little reliance on donations.
However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, my income dropped drastically.
Eventually, my company forced me to retire at age 55, leaving me with almost no income.

Victim of a Crowdfunding Scam

In an effort to overcome this financial crisis, I launched a crowdfunding campaign with an Italian volunteer.
Unfortunately, he misused the funds—spending the money we raised on advertising to grow his personal Instagram following.
As a result, I lost €6,500 that should have gone toward the dogs.

Over $59,000 of Personal Savings Invested

Despite these hardships, I continued to support the dogs using my own personal savings—over $59,000.
However, those savings are now nearly gone, and I am unsure how we will sustain operations in the coming months.

Surviving Thanks to Volunteers and Donors

ntil now, we have survived thanks to the kindness of volunteers and donors around the world.
But our financial situation has reached a critical stage.

Green Tails’ Survival at Risk

Green Tails, established in 2013, is now facing its most difficult period.
Each month, we need to raise at least $3,000 USD to cover food, supplies, equipment, and utilities.
At present, we depend entirely on monthly donations.

If I were to fall ill or donations were to stop coming in…
we could no longer care for the 15 dogs who live here.
That would mean the end of Green Tails’ 12-year history—an organization that has saved and loved over 200 dogs.

“Maybe I Should Quit…”

To be honest, I’ve thought about giving up many times.
But each time, I remember Som, a brave dog who fought illness with strength and grace.
Her courage and the joy she brought me give me strength even now.

Not only Som—but every one of the 200 dogs I’ve cared for—are part of my family.
My mission is to save as many dogs as possible through Green Tails.
That’s why I decided not to give up, and instead to find new supporters to keep this project alive.

A Project to Bring Happiness to More Dogs

Screenshot

The purpose of this project is to raise donations to provide stable, ongoing support for rescued dogs.
We are looking for supporters to join us in creating more happy lives for dogs in need.

With continued support, we can cover facility maintenance, food, and other essential costs.
I personally take care of the dogs every day to ensure they live happy, healthy lives.

We Need Your Help

I would love for you to become part of the Green Tails team by providing regular support.
I could never have made the dogs happy on my own—our progress has only been possible thanks to volunteers and donors like you.

If you’re willing to lend your support,
I promise to continue caring for the dogs with all my heart.

Supporting Dogs Brings Happiness

You might feel that donating doesn’t bring any direct benefit to you.
But after investing over $59,000 of my own savings and caring for dogs for 14 years, I’ve learned something important:

Helping dogs has healed me, given me fulfillment, and brought me true happiness.

Not only have I been blessed with the dogs themselves, but also with the wonderful connections I’ve made with their foster families.
Those relationships are my greatest treasure.

That’s why I hope you too will feel joy and meaning through supporting rescue dogs.
And that through Green Tails, you’ll meet others who share your compassion and values.

If, like us, you wish for as many dogs as possible to be happy—
please consider lending your support.
Together, we can continue to create more wagging tails and brighter futures.

We want our supporters to feel a genuine connection with the dogs.
Many of our donors prefer that their contributions go directly toward the dogs rather than physical rewards.
So we’ve prepared simple, heartfelt gifts to show our gratitude.
